Fiji’s Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, emphasized the urgent need to boost the number of businesses owned by native Fijians, highlighting that currently only five percent of businesses are operated by the iTaukei community. During the launch of two business empowerment projects in Naduri, Macuata, he stressed the importance of support and encouragement to foster growth among local entrepreneurs.
Mr. Vasu pointed out that a shift in mindset is essential, as there have been instances where individuals have undermined the success of others. He noted that various factors contribute to the low representation of iTaukei business owners in the country. To address these issues, he called for unity and collaboration within the community in order to explore new opportunities and inspire Fijians to achieve success.
During the event marking the launch of the Korovou Homestay and Crumbs Bakery Café, Vasu mentioned that there are various projects planned for the northern region, which can potentially pave the way for increased entrepreneurship among iTaukei.
This message of unity and support is indeed a hopeful outlook for the business landscape in Fiji. By working together and encouraging one another, the iTaukei community can foster a thriving environment that promotes economic growth and builds a stronger future.
