Twenty women from vulnerable backgrounds in Suva are now ready to embark on their entrepreneurial journeys after completing a transformative three-day “Start Your Business” training program. This initiative, organized by the Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs, and Communications in collaboration with Homes of Hope, aimed to empower participants by providing them with essential business skills and tools to rebuild their lives sustainably.
The training was led by ILO-certified trainer Mohammed Aslam Khan, who imparted vital knowledge on cash flow management, regulatory compliance, record keeping, and operational planning. Participants not only gained confidence in their capabilities but also acquired the expertise needed to start and manage their own businesses.
Homes of Hope, a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting young women and mothers escaping violence and exploitation, played a crucial role in facilitating this training. The organization is known for offering accredited vocational and business training programs in various fields, contributing significantly to the empowerment of women in the community.
This initiative aligns with similar government efforts to uplift vulnerable populations through entrepreneurship. For instance, recent related programs include the Welfare Graduation Program that successfully trained social welfare recipients and provided them with essential business management skills. These initiatives collectively work towards reducing reliance on social welfare while fostering community resilience and economic independence.
The Ministry of Trade, Cooperatives, MSMEs, and Communications has expressed its commitment to ongoing support for such initiatives, aiming to create further opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs across Fiji. With a focus on empowering women and enhancing their agency, these training programs pave the way for brighter futures not only for the participants but also contribute positively to their families and communities.
The focus on education and empowerment in these training sessions provides a hopeful outlook, indicating that with the right support and resources, women can achieve financial independence and drive positive change in their lives and the society at large.
