Education Minister Aseri Radrodro has called on parents to take an active role in their children’s educational journey, emphasizing the significant impact their involvement has on shaping academic success and personal growth. This message was delivered during the Prefects Investiture Ceremony at Vatukaloko Secondary School, where student leaders from both Vatukaloko Secondary School and Drauniivi Public School were inducted.
The Minister encouraged parents to dedicate quality time to their children, closely monitor their academic progress, assist with homework, and remain engaged in school activities. He stated, “Your support at home plays a crucial role in their learning journey,” highlighting the indispensable contribution parents make to their children’s education.
Radrodro also took the opportunity to congratulate the newly appointed prefects, stressing that leadership carries responsibilities, integrity, and the expectation to be role models within their school communities. He expressed his belief that with the collaborative efforts of parents and teachers, these student leaders can uphold and exemplify the values of their respective schools.
This initiative reflects ongoing efforts to address the declining academic performance among students in Fiji, a concern Radrodro has raised in previous speeches. His remarks resonate with a broader campaign advocating for heightened parental involvement as a necessary measure to combat this trend.
The growing recognition of the importance of parental engagement is a hopeful sign for Fiji’s educational landscape. By fostering strong partnerships among families, educators, and the community, there is great potential to improve educational outcomes and create supportive environments where students can thrive. As the academic year progresses, these collective efforts could pave the way for a brighter future, where every child is positioned to succeed.
