Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka commended Pacific Polytech for its role in providing Fijians with a second chance at education during a graduation ceremony today. At this event, 181 students were honored for completing various courses and receiving their certificates.

Rabuka highlighted the significance of Technical Vocational Education Training (TVET), asserting that it serves as a practical route to employment and entrepreneurship. This belief comes amid challenges faced by the institution, as Rabuka noted that he had to overcome criticism to secure government support for Pacific Polytech.

As of now, more than 870 Fijians have attained national qualifications through the institution, with 56% successfully entering the workforce. Looking ahead, Pacific Polytech has received 1,203 applications for the upcoming term, with over 400 approved for assistance through the Tertiary Scholarship and Loans Scheme (TSLS).

This ceremony aligns with recent milestones for Pacific Polytech, as earlier reports indicated that since October 2023, over 2,000 students have graduated from the institution. With 1,574 receiving micro qualifications and 878 earning national ones, there is a strong commitment to developing new training programs in critical sectors such as business, agriculture, healthcare, and engineering.

The theme of resilience and hope resonates through the institution’s mission, as highlighted by previous speeches from leaders like Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, who emphasized perseverance in the face of challenges. Pacific Polytech continues to serve as a beacon of hope, guiding youth away from societal issues such as drug abuse by offering them practical skills and empowering them to build meaningful careers.

With ongoing developments at Pacific Polytech, the future looks promising, as graduates transition into the workforce equipped with vital skills necessary for success. This commitment to education and skill development is essential for uplifting the community and fostering a brighter future for Fiji’s youth.
