Pacific Polytech, led by Chairperson Ganesh Chand, is launching a new programme focused on social media. Recognizing the widespread use and influence of social media across various demographics, Mr. Chand emphasized the importance of content creation as a specialized skill that needs attention and development.
The institution aims to collaborate with media organizations to enhance this programme, reflecting a commitment to improving media literacy and content quality. Mr. Chand also noted that Pacific Polytech has ambitious plans to expand its presence in Vanua Levu, with plans to work alongside the government to secure land for a new campus in Labasa.
Additionally, Mr. Chand encouraged parents to support their daughters in pursuing professions in traditionally male-dominated fields such as mechanics, plumbing, and carpentry. He highlighted that a cultural shift is necessary, starting in homes, to allow young women to explore varied career paths. This aligns with Pacific Polytech’s broader goals of promoting gender equality through education and skill development.
The recent graduation of 97 students from the Labasa campus, where many received National Certificates in Carpentry and Plumbing, underscores the institution’s role in equipping the youth with practical skills. Mr. Chand proudly noted that all graduates from prior cohorts found employment, signaling a successful response to the demand for skilled workers in Fiji.
This initiative reflects an encouraging trend towards inclusive education and empowerment for all students, especially young women, fostering a qualified workforce ready to meet the demands of modern industries. With these developments, Pacific Polytech is poised to make a significant impact on communities and the economy in Fiji.
