The Education Minister has called on parents to increase their involvement in their children’s educational journeys, stressing the importance of both emotional and practical support. He highlighted that emotional encouragement is vital for academic growth, asserting that parental support forms the backbone of a child’s success.
Minister Aseri Radrodro emphasized, “Your encouragement, your support, your care are the foundation of your child’s success. This is what motivates students to keep striving for excellence.” He encouraged parents to actively participate in school activities, such as attending parent-teacher meetings and school events, which bridge the gap between home and school.
In line with his previous statements during events, such as the prefect induction ceremony at Natabua High School, where he noted that strong family support positively impacts students’ academic performance and self-esteem, he reiterated the need for parents to monitor their children’s academic progress. This includes keeping track of homework, assignments, and examination results.
Radrodro’s commitment to enhancing educational standards through active parental engagement reflects a broader initiative aimed at reversing discouraging trends in student performance observed across Fiji. By fostering partnerships among families, educators, and community leaders, there is a renewed hope for improving educational outcomes that will benefit all students.
With the new academic year underway, the Minister’s call for increased parental involvement presents a promising opportunity to build supportive learning environments. If families rise to this challenge, the educational landscape in Fiji can shift towards a brighter and more successful future for every child.
