Empowering Futures: Fiji’s Youth Shine in Free Training Programs

The Australian Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) is providing valuable education for the youth in our region, aiming to empower them in securing employment and improving their quality of life. This past Wednesday, 317 students were awarded certificates, including 181 females and 137 males, during a ceremony held in Nasinu.

Jokapeci Mocelutu, a 26-year-old from Suvavou, Rewa, expressed the importance of her training, stating that it will greatly enhance her job prospects. She has one child and attended the program for 12 weeks, committing to her studies despite challenges. “This is a great opportunity, and it is free, allowing us to improve our work opportunities,” she said, praising the school’s resources and accessibility.

Jokapeci is currently pursuing a certificate in aged care, with plans to find work both locally and abroad, as job availability at home has been tough, compounded by the rising cost of living. She encourages others to take similar courses to open new pathways for employment.

Sainimere Lewetini, also 26, from Naweretu, Nakorotubu, emphasized her excitement about achieving her certificate in hospitality. This is her first experience with such training, and she is eager to apply her skills in Lautoka, where she will gain hands-on experience at local hotels. Her training lasted 12 weeks, with three additional weeks focused on practical work.

Sainimere attributes her success to her faith and the support she received, allowing her to secure a vital certificate that will lead to employment in the hospitality sector. She encourages her peers to take advantage of available trainings, noting the positive impact such opportunities can have on their lives.

Both women highlight the significance of these educational programs, which not only prepare them for the workforce but also aim to alleviate the challenges faced by many families in the region.
