Empowering Futures: APTC’s Impact on Young Lives in Fiji

The Australian Pacific Training Coalition (APTC) is providing valuable education opportunities in our region, particularly for young people seeking to enhance their skills and improve their livelihoods. This past Wednesday, 317 students, including 181 women and 137 men, graduated in Nasinu.

Jokapeci Mocelutu, a 26-year-old from Suvavou, Rewa, is one of the graduates who has completed training in aged care. As a mother, she highlighted the significance of this program, which lasted 12 weeks, and emphasized its potential to facilitate access to job opportunities. Mocelutu stated, “This is a great course and it is free. We can take away valuable skills that will help us in our work.”

She expressed gratitude for the supportive environment in which students can learn and grow their employability skills. Additionally, she is now seeking work either locally or abroad due to the tough employment conditions and high cost of living.

Sainimere Lewetini, also 26 and from Naweretu, Nakorotubu in Ra, shared her excitement about her recent achievement. She completed her Certificate II in Hospitality and noted that this training was her first step towards employment. The course provided her with foundational skills for the hospitality industry, and she is eager to utilize her knowledge in Lautoka soon.

Lewetini appreciates her newfound certification, which she believes is a pathway to further opportunities in the hospitality sector. She encouraged others to take advantage of free educational programs like this one to better their lives and combat poverty.

Both graduates voiced their determination to succeed and urged their peers to embrace the opportunities offered through education. They recognized the need for community support and personal commitment to improve individual and communal living standards.
