The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has overseen the election of school head prefects at Dilkusha Methodist High School as part of its initiative to assist educational institutions in conducting their prefect elections. The election was organized using the FEO’s School Election Toolkit (SET), which aims to foster a practical understanding of the democratic process among students.

Approximately 200 students from Years 11 to 13 participated in this engaging event, casting their votes to elect a Head Boy, Head Girl, and four Deputies. The FEO emphasized that the SET enables students to experience the voting process firsthand, enhancing their grasp of democratic values such as transparency and leadership.

By providing actual ballot papers, voting booths, and maintaining voter rolls, the initiative allows students to appreciate the significance of making informed choices and embracing their responsibilities as active citizens. This practical approach not only empowers students but also instills a sense of civic duty that can positively influence their future involvement in society.

In a time where the importance of democracy can sometimes be overlooked, initiatives like these serve as a vital reminder of its foundational role in shaping responsible, informed citizens.
