Empowering Fiji’s Youth: Tackling Unemployment Together

Fiji’s Employment Minister, Agni Deo Singh, has highlighted that while 70 percent of the country’s population is under the age of 40, a significant portion of those unemployed also fall within this age group. This was stated during the 2024 Western Division Mini Job Fair held at Koroivolu Park in Nadi.

“This event marks a significant step in our ongoing effort to facilitate employment opportunities and foster economic growth within the Western Division and across the nation,” Singh said.

Singh expressed gratitude to the attendees, including around 20 employers who had set up booths to address the local workforce skills shortage.

“The national employment top most prioritised policy was to highlight the need to create more opportunities for young people to follow clear pathways from education to productive employment. This fair aims to bring together job seekers and employers,” he added.

The minister acknowledged the challenges in finding suitable employment and emphasized the goal of creating a platform where opportunities and talents converge.

“Our nation is blessed with a young and dynamic workforce. However, to harness its potential, it is imperative that we provide our job seekers with the necessary tools and opportunities to excel,” Singh stated. “This job fair is not just about securing jobs; it is about building careers, fostering employment growth, and ensuring sustainable livelihoods.”
