The recent training initiative aimed at young street dwellers in Fiji has been commended for its effectiveness in altering mindsets and improving life skills. Seremaia Tauriwaya, a participant in a sexual reproductive health and human rights training, expressed his appreciation for the straightforward and impactful nature of the program, stating that it significantly benefitted the youth involved.

Tauriwaya highlighted the importance of grounding young individuals in essential life knowledge before proceeding to vocational training. He credited the Ministry of Youth and Sports for facilitating this valuable initiative, which simplifies complex topics into easily understandable formats, enabling participants to comprehend and apply what they learn quickly.

Nicholle Carasobu, the youth officer in Nadi, confirmed that this session was part of a broader effort to target youth street dwellers in Nadi and Lautoka, with the ultimate goal of equipping them with practical skills for employment or self-employment. Upcoming training sessions will offer specialized skills such as tour guiding, baking, and barbering, culminating in accredited certifications from Fiji National University.

The program is designed not only to help these young individuals transition off the streets but also to connect them with stakeholders willing to assist in registering their businesses and obtaining essential tools for entrepreneurship. This addresses the larger desire among participants to start their own businesses and reintegrate into society successfully.

This initiative aligns with similar government efforts aimed at uplifting marginalized young populations by providing them with valuable skills and opportunities for a brighter future. As seen in other training programs across different regions, education and support can significantly transform lives and communities, offering hope and pathways to a better life for these youths.

Overall, the concerted efforts from government and local organizations reflect a strong commitment to fostering resilience and empowerment among vulnerable youth in Fiji, paving the way for positive change and future success.
