The Fiji Institute of Chartered Accountants (FICA) recently launched its Senior Executive Women in Leadership Program in the Western Division for the first time. This initiative, developed in partnership with the Asian Development Bank’s Pacific Private Sector Development Initiative (PSDI), aims to empower women in leadership roles within sectors such as accounting and finance.

During the program’s opening at the Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka, FICA’s Executive Director Daljeet Maharaj recognized the significant contributions of women towards creating a more equitable future in Fiji. He emphasized that the program is part of FICA’s ongoing Women in Leadership series, which began in 2019 and aims to address the challenges that women face in advancing within their careers.

This year’s program focuses on pivotal themes, including governance, resilience, organizational culture, and risk management. Distinguished experts, Dr. Nacanieli Rika and Ms. Gina Houng Lee, facilitate the sessions, providing participants with invaluable insights drawn from their vast experience.

The Fiji Government has also played a supportive role by providing grant funding to FICA, enabling the organization to offer a $500 registration discount to each participant to enhance accessibility to the program. This year, a cohort of 20 women, including three from Suva, are participating in this transformative initiative.

In light of the previous successful sessions, where 25 women completed a Senior Executive Women in Leadership Program, this initiative highlights the growing recognition of female leaders in Fiji’s workforce. FICA President Wiliki Takiveikata has repeatedly stressed the importance of increasing female representation in leadership roles as essential for fostering innovation and driving business success.

As the event nears its conclusion, the collective hope is that initiatives like this will pave the way for more women to ascend to leadership positions, thereby contributing to a more balanced and diverse professional environment within Fiji’s corporate landscape.
