Empowering Fiji’s Future: Grants for Aspiring Young Entrepreneurs

Women are being urged to support young individuals aspiring to launch their own businesses.

Losana Marama from West Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises addressed attendees at a women’s conference held at Gurukul Primary School in Saweni, Lautoka. She highlighted the benefits of the Young Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES), which aims to assist emerging entrepreneurs through grants.

Ms. Marama explained that the scheme provides financial backing of up to $30,000 to entrepreneurs aged 18 to 40 who present innovative and viable business ideas. She emphasized that parents should motivate their children to pursue unique entrepreneurial ventures, stating, “If your child has innovative and creative ideas, they can access this funding.”

She noted that some children may come across business ideas online that are popular in other countries but not yet in Fiji, and the scheme can help them implement those ideas. “The limit is $30,000. It is a grant, not a loan. It is fully funded. If you see a skill in a child, try to motivate and empower them,” she added.

Furthermore, Ms. Marama stressed the importance of young entrepreneurs in driving economic growth. She encouraged parents and guardians to inspire their children to become “job creators” instead of simply seeking employment.

The West Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) office is located at Rogorogoivuda House in Lautoka.
