One hundred and fifty operators of micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) celebrated their graduation from this year’s Business Community Program (BCP) on National MSME Day, held at the Fiji Revenue and Customs Services (FRCS) head office in Suva. This program, which spans three years, is designed to empower MSMEs through extensive support, training, and engagement.

Among the graduates, 50 operators successfully completed their three-year journey toward full tax and customs compliance, while the remaining 100 are progressing through their first and second years in the program. The graduation event was officiated by Sashi Kiran, the Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, who praised FRCS for their dedication to supporting MSMEs.

Kiran expressed appreciation for the variety of training programs and outreach activities, which have helped MSMEs navigate tax obligations and customs processes essential for their growth. She highlighted that these efforts not only promote compliance but also encourage capacity building and economic empowerment.

FRCS Chief Executive Officer Udit Singh congratulated the graduates and noted that to date, the FRCS has trained over 6,000 MSMEs on tax compliance, aiming to make these processes easier and more accessible. Singh emphasized a proactive approach taken by FRCS, where they actively reach out to SMEs to educate and support them, fostering a culture of voluntary compliance.

This initiative aligns with ongoing efforts to bolster the MSME sector in Fiji, which plays a critical role in economic growth, job creation, and poverty alleviation. The training programs and the establishment of the FRCS MSME Support Centre signify a commitment to strengthening local businesses and enhancing financial literacy, ultimately promoting sustainable MSME growth in the country.

The consistent dedication to training and support reflects a promising future for these enterprises, showcasing the potential of MSMEs as vital contributors to Fiji’s economy.

Overall, the completion of the Business Community Program marks a significant achievement for the participating MSMEs, reinforcing the commitment to promoting entrepreneurship and sustainable business practices in Fiji.
