Empowering Fijian Youth: Christmas Grants that Transform Communities!

On Christmas Eve, Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru dedicated his time to visiting villages in Vanua Levu, where he distributed Income Generating Project (IGP) grants. His visit highlighted his commitment to uplifting local communities and supporting youth initiatives.

During his trip, Mr. Saukuru engaged with the Nailou Youth Club in Nailou Village, which consists of 25 young members who were awarded a $5,000 grant for beekeeping. The group was provided with four double honey boxes filled with bees and essential honey farming equipment, such as a smoker, hive tool, and safety gear. The Minister also delivered various sports equipment—including gear for volleyball, netball, rugby, and beach volleyball—to promote sports within the community.

Mr. Saukuru emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to empowering youth in Fiji, stating, “By delivering resources that support sustainable livelihoods and promote physical activity, the ministry ensures that no youth is left behind.” His arduous 30-minute boat journey to the village underlined the ministry’s mission to reach every corner of Fiji.

In addition, Mr. Saukuru visited the Sawani Youth Club in Sawani Village, delivering a solar-powered freezer that will aid the club in generating income. He reiterated the ministry’s dedication to fostering self-reliant communities through development projects aimed at youth engagement.

Lastly, in Bua, the Minister met with young farmer Anasa Kaitoa from Naruwai Village, who received an IGP grant to support his agricultural endeavors. The grant will provide him with much-needed farming equipment, enabling him to enhance his vegetable and crop production, which contributes to the local community’s needs.

Mr. Saukuru’s visits reflect a strong commitment to support rural development and empower young individuals as they navigate challenges in agriculture and sports. By leveraging resources and encouraging community initiatives, he is paving the way for stronger, self-reliant communities throughout Fiji.

This support not only fosters resilience among the youth but also encourages community spirit, highlighting the importance of collective effort in overcoming challenges.

In summary, Minister Jese Saukuru’s dedicated efforts on Christmas Eve exemplify a positive approach to youth empowerment and community development, aiming for a brighter future for young people in rural Fiji.
