Empowering Fiji: Westpac Launches Online Financial Literacy Training

Westpac has launched an online financial literacy training program for Fijians, allowing them to participate from home or their workplace. This initiative is believed to be the first of its kind in Fiji, transitioning from in-person sessions with community groups, customers, and Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) to a virtual format.

Shane Smith, Chief Executive of Westpac Fiji, stated that the bank aims to leverage social media to reach more Fijians and encourage them to enhance their skills in areas such as budgeting, planning, saving, and financial management throughout their lives. He expressed pride in Westpac being one of the first banks in Fiji to offer virtual financial literacy training and urged interested individuals to join the complimentary sessions. Upon completion, participants receive a certificate and additional resources to support their financial journey.

Prior to the public launch, Westpac conducted an internal virtual session, which saw an encouraging turnout of over 50 employees. From October 2023 to July 2024, the bank has offered free financial literacy training sessions to nearly 6,000 Fijians, providing two training options: Financial First Steps for families and Business Basics.

Westpac emphasized that this initiative demonstrates its commitment to promoting sustainable business practices and fostering economic growth in Fiji.
