The Fiji Development Bank (FDB), in partnership with the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Small and Medium Enterprises, and Communications, delivered essential machinery to two businesses owned by resource owners in Nadi yesterday.
A truck and an excavator were given to Vurabere Investment Pte Limited, while an excavator was handed over to Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Limited. FDB indicated that these businesses, which focus on sand and gravel extraction, will now be better equipped to enhance their operations, thanks to financial backing from FDB along with additional funding from the Ministry’s Integrated Human Resource Development Programme (IHRDP).
FDB’s acting CEO, Titilia Vakaoca Kamil, expressed that the new machinery will empower local businesses to manage their resources more effectively, lower expenses, and generate essential job opportunities in their communities. She remarked, “This is a strong step towards greater self-reliance and a growth mindset, and we’re proud to be a part of it.” Kamil emphasized that the partnership with the ministry demonstrates a united effort to provide businesses in Fiji with the necessary tools for success. By supporting companies like Vurabere Investment and Tokatoka Namara Development, they are contributing to the future of communities and the economy.
The handover was conducted by Minister for Trade, Manoa Kamikamica, highlighting the robust collaboration between FDB and the ministry in aiding local businesses and resource owners. A representative from Tokatoka Namara Development Pte Limited stated, “With this new excavator, we can better manage our costs and expand our operations. It opens up new possibilities for our business.”
The handover events, which took place at Dratabu and Maqalevu in Nadi, attracted around 40 participants, including key stakeholders and local representatives. FDB was represented by Nadi Branch manager Mohammed Jaffar, who shared insights into the bank’s ongoing support for businesses throughout Fiji.
FDB reiterated its commitment to partnering with local businesses and government organizations to foster economic growth and sustainability within Fiji’s business sectors. “Businesses are always welcome to contact the bank by visiting our branches across Fiji or emailing info@fdb.com.fj for any business inquiry,” Kamil noted. She added, “Our vision is to provide robust services to sectors and enterprises that contribute to the sustainable development of the Fijian economy.”
