Business Assistance Fiji (BAF) and the iTaukei Trust Fund Board (TTFB) have taken a significant step towards empowering iTaukei and Rotuman businesses by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing entrepreneurship and business knowledge among these communities. This collaboration reflects a substantial commitment to fostering sustainable economic growth and enhancing the entrepreneurial landscape in Fiji.
The MoU outlines strategic initiatives designed to provide Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with access to BAF’s professional network and resources, which include training in financial literacy and business management. BAF’s General Manager, Ramesh Chand, highlighted the importance of this partnership by affirming their dedication to supporting local entrepreneurs: “By working together, we can ensure that entrepreneurs in these communities receive the support, mentorship, and resources they need to succeed.”
As part of their joint efforts, TTFB will direct MSMEs to utilize BAF’s services and both organizations will work towards connecting businesses with local advisors and subsidies tailored for growth. This includes facilitating the Business and Investment Ready Grant Assistance at TTFB — an initiative aimed at providing critical expertise in business diagnostics and linking MSMEs with approved service providers.
Notably, TTFB’s CEO, Aisake Taito, emphasized a shift towards capacity building, advocating for greater independence and self-sufficiency among iTaukei and Rotuman businesses. The partnership will foster an environment ripe for innovation and sustainable business practices by enhancing information sharing, promoting events, and advocating for MSME development.
This initiative also resonates with previous efforts highlighted by Minister for iTaukei Affairs, Ifereimi Vasu, who noted the systemic challenges faced by iTaukei entrepreneurs, including a lack of financial education and access to resources. Recent workshops and grants introduced by TTFB have shared a common goal of empowering business owners, particularly in the area of community tourism and sustainable projects.
By leveraging their combined expertise and resources, BAF and TTFB aim to build a robust platform for economic success, inspiring hope for a new wave of entrepreneurial ventures that can transform the economic landscape for iTaukei and Rotuman communities. This collaboration is a beacon of potential for future business growth in Fiji as it emphasizes inclusivity, support, and sustainable development.
