Empowering Fiji: A Call for Mindset Change and Vocational Training

Chinese ambassador to Fiji, Zhou Jian, emphasized the importance of empowering individuals to shift their mindsets for a better quality of life. During a recent media briefing at his residence, he highlighted vocational training as a key strategy to facilitate this change.

Ambassador Zhou expressed concern that many people in Fiji are not adequately saving or enhancing their livelihoods, stating, “They are satisfied with where they are, so that is the problem.”

He announced a new partnership between a vocational training center in China and a local center in Nadi, aimed at providing essential training for various professions, including hospitality staff, medical personnel, and farmers.

“Vocational training should be prioritized for cooperation,” he noted, stressing the need for skilled workers in sectors such as agriculture and aquaculture. “You have the land, you need farmers. You have the sea, you need aquaculture. You have hotels, you need staff.”

The ambassador also pointed out the potential of the Juncao Technology Demonstration Center in Nadi, which has already benefited 2,000 families. Additionally, he mentioned the presence of rice planting experts in Vanua Levu, aiming to introduce innovative methods to enhance rice production.

Zhou Jian concluded with optimism, stating that with collaborative efforts, it should be achievable for Fijian communities to acquire new skills and leverage local resources for a better life.
