Over 30 farmers from Nawairuku, Ra, recently participated in a two-day training program organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Waterways, focusing on sustainable farming practices. This initiative is part of a broader commitment by the government to enhance the agricultural skills of local farmers and ensure the long-term productivity and resilience of grassroots communities.

The training program provided comprehensive education on crucial topics such as farm management skills, innovative crop sustainability techniques, and long-term planning strategies aimed at fostering future productivity. The hands-on workshops included discussions on soil health and effective farming strategies, allowing participants to gain practical insights that they can apply in their operations.

Farmer Jope Nayarowale expressed his appreciation for the skills acquired during the training, especially emphasizing the importance of five-year planning and farm management for his future agricultural endeavors. This sentiment reflects a collective enthusiasm among participants, who are keen to implement what they’ve learned to improve their farming practices.

This training initiative follows a consistent trend observed across various regions in Fiji, where similar educational programs aim to support farmers through skill development. For instance, recent training efforts have also targeted floriculture, empowering women in agriculture and promoting sustainable practices. These educational sessions contribute to the government’s efforts toward achieving economic growth and improving food security while addressing challenges faced in the agricultural sector.

The Nawairuku Training Program represents a pivotal step towards fostering resilience and self-sufficiency in farming communities. As the Ministry of Agriculture continues to implement training initiatives, it not only strengthens individual farmers but also reinforces a collective movement towards sustainable agricultural practices. With ongoing support and education, the future of agriculture in Fiji looks promising, paving the way for enhanced productivity and community development.
