World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27, focusing on the vital role these enterprises play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. The theme for this year was “Small Business, Big Change.” Members of the Building at Sunset community shared their motivations for becoming entrepreneurs.
Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business that features two properties — a two-bedroom home in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a five-bedroom accommodation in Pacific Harbour at $750 per night. Initially driven by the need to balance work and family life, her focus has evolved towards achieving financial independence. She is eagerly planning to launch a website to further her business.
Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, started her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Encouraged by businesses needing cleaning services, she aims to expand her operations beyond the Suva-Nausori corridor. Her drive stemmed from personal goals and inspiration drawn from other successful women in business.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, journey into the fitness industry began in high school. Realizing the positive impact of fitness on confidence and resilience, she sought to help others through her passion. With over ten years of experience and various fitness certifications, she established Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness to promote a healthy lifestyle.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, is dedicated to sustainability and innovation within the construction industry. Her initiative, the Innovation in Construction Hub, aims to integrate local knowledge and new products to address Fiji’s infrastructural challenges.
