The government will provide payment for qualification upgrades to 395 teachers in two installments: 50 percent before Christmas and the remainder in January, as announced by Education Minister Aseri Radrodro. During the Fiji Teachers Registration Authority (FTRA) and Ministry of Education Annual Congress 2024 held at Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Denarau, Mr. Radrodro reiterated the government’s dedication to supporting educators.

Under the theme “Transforming Education: Closing Gaps, Connecting Minds, Shaping Tomorrow,” he emphasized the ministry’s ambitions for the current year, ensuring teachers receive the benefits they deserve. He mentioned that these payments would accompany location allowances and regularization of posts.

Additionally, he revealed that 103 assistant principals would receive a promotion to distinguish their roles from heads of departments. Mr. Radrodro noted the significance of these incentives as a means of recognizing teachers’ hard work and ensuring that their skills remain in Fiji’s education sector, fostering the necessary learning environment for students.

He affirmed the Coalition Government’s commitment to building a strong educational framework through continuous investment. Acknowledging the dedication of school leaders, he remarked on their crucial influence, which extends beyond school environments.

As discussions at the Annual Congress progressed, Mr. Radrodro urged for collaborative efforts among educators, encouraging meaningful conversations, sharing best practices, and charting a path that enhances the profession and elevates educational experiences for students. He expressed optimism that the congress would unify educators, empowering them to prepare students for future challenges.

By fostering an environment of shared experiences and collective learning, a resilient educational community can emerge, driving progress and change within the sector.

In summary, this initiative represents a significant investment in the education sector, highlighting the government’s acknowledgment of teachers’ vital roles and contributions to shaping the future of education in Fiji.
