The Amania Women’s Group from Wainibuka, Tailevu, has made significant progress in their entrepreneurial journey, evolving from selling homemade crafts and fresh produce by the roadside to exhibiting their handmade products at the Suva Civic Centre’s Christmas Market.

On December 19, these dedicated women embarked on a challenging journey, leaving their village as early as 4 am to ensure they could participate in the vibrant market, which features 40 other women entrepreneurs. The event offers them an exciting opportunity to experience the festive spirit of Suva while striving for financial independence.

Eleni Kaloulia, the group’s treasurer, described the market as a pivotal moment in their journey. Initially, the concept of achieving financial independence seemed like a distant dream due to resource constraints. However, the market’s success proved otherwise, with the women selling numerous mats and shopping chains, and even securing custom orders.

Despite facing numerous hurdles in establishing a foothold in the business arena, the Amania Women’s Group is steadfast in their aspirations. They aim to improve the quality of life within their community, showcasing their resilience and determination as rural entrepreneurs.

This story exemplifies the power of community and determination, proving that with hard work and collaboration, financial independence is more than just a goal—it can become a reality. The Amania Women’s Group serves as an inspiring example for others, demonstrating the potential success of local artisans and entrepreneurs when provided with opportunities to showcase their talents.
