Empowering Diversity: New Grants Fuel Community Transformation in Levuka

The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs is supporting five communities in Levuka through various important projects funded by grants. These initiatives aim to enhance accessibility, improve water management, renovate facilities, and provide essential equipment to the communities involved.

Minister Charan Jeath Singh highlighted that ministry staff will closely monitor each project as part of the Grant Programme. He stressed the importance of accountability, requiring organizations to submit regular reports, and confirmed that ministry staff would conduct site visits to ensure the timely completion of projects.

Singh also emphasized the government’s commitment to promoting unity and diversity by engaging with communities at the grassroots level. One of the ministry’s core mandates is to ensure the well-being and support of all ethnic communities.

This current funding initiative builds upon previous efforts by the Ministry, which recently resumed grants for community-based organizations after a 14-year break. The initial allocation of $1.5 million has already begun benefiting various divisions, illustrating a sustainable approach to empowering local communities.

Such focused support not only fosters a sense of hope among the participants but also strengthens their ability to contribute positively to society. This alignment with earlier initiatives demonstrates the government’s continuous commitment to uplifting diverse ethnic groups in Fiji, ensuring that every citizen has the opportunity to thrive in an inclusive environment.

Community leaders and members can look forward to the benefits these projects will bring, as they stand to enhance not only infrastructural improvements but also community cohesion.
