The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, Manoa Kamikamica, recently completed an inspiring two-day tour of four resorts in the Yasawa Islands. These resorts are part of the Yasawa Marketing Co-operative, which includes Long Beach Hideaway Resort, Bay of Plenty, Safe Landing Resort, and Nabua Lodge. All of these establishments are family-run and showcase the essence of community-focused tourism in the region.

During his visit, Mr. Kamikamica engaged in fruitful discussions with the resort owners, exploring their successes, the opportunities they have seized, and the challenges they continue to face. The highlight of these conversations was their commitment to delivering authentic Fijian experiences while making significant contributions to the local economy.

Notably, Long Beach Hideaway Resort has benefited from the Integrated Human Resources Development Programme, which has facilitated the enhancement of its facilities, improved services, and boosted marketing strategies to attract more visitors. The positive ripple effect of such support goes beyond individual resorts, uplifting entire communities by creating job opportunities and showcasing the stunning beauty and vibrant culture of the Yasawa Islands.

Mr. Kamikamica praised the co-operative members for their dedication, resilience, and innovative strategies in the tourism sector. He reiterated the government’s support for grassroots enterprises, emphasizing their crucial role in Fiji’s economic landscape.

The Minister encouraged the co-operative to foster collaboration, tackle challenges, and adopt sustainable practices that will protect the Yasawas’ pristine environment while growing their operations.

This visit signifies the Ministry’s persistent efforts to strengthen collaborations with micro, small, and medium enterprises and cooperatives. By empowering communities through targeted support and promoting an inclusive growth environment, the government is working towards building a more robust and resilient tourism industry in Fiji.

This article reflects a commitment to nurturing local businesses and supporting community initiatives, fostering hope for the future of tourism and local economies in the Yasawa Islands.
