Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu recently presented Cooperative Registrations to fishing groups from Namuana and Solovola villages in Kadavu, specifically to the Wailiwa Cooperative Limited and Solovola Cooperative Limited. This initiative aims to support their fishing ventures by providing essential equipment such as nets and cooler boxes.
Naomi Naio from the Solovola Women’s Club expressed gratitude for this support, highlighting how it will positively impact their livelihoods and assist them in preparing for the upcoming festive season as families gather in the village.
In addition, the Rural Housing Assistance Programme delivered housing materials worth over $35,000 to Waqavesi Nariu. This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to aid workers affected by redundancy at the Vatukoula Gold Mine.
Bainivalu has encouraged cooperatives to take advantage of growth opportunities, emphasizing the importance of community development. She also acknowledged the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister and Trades Minister Manoa Kamikamica, along with Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka, in making these initiatives a reality. These collaborative efforts are viewed as crucial steps toward building stronger, self-sustaining communities.
This news reflects a strong commitment to community support and economic development. Such initiatives not only foster resilience among local communities but also enhance social cohesion as families prepare to come together for the festive season.
