Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu recently presented Cooperative Registrations to fishing groups from Namuana and Solovola villages in Kadavu, including the Wailiwa Cooperative Limited and the Solovola Cooperative Limited. This initiative aims to bolster the local fishing industry and support sustainable practices in the community.

As part of this support, fishing gear such as nets and cooler boxes were provided to the groups, enhancing their ability to prepare for the upcoming festive season when families typically return to the village. Naomi Naio of the Solovola Women’s Club expressed gratitude for this timely assistance, highlighting its importance for local livelihoods.

In addition, the Rural Housing Assistance Programme facilitated the delivery of housing materials worth over $35,000 to Waqavesi Nariu. This assistance is part of ongoing efforts to support workers from the Vatukoula Gold Mine who have been affected by job redundancies.

Minister Bainivalu encouraged cooperatives to embrace growth opportunities and acknowledged the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister and Trade Minister Manoa Kamikamica, along with Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka, for their vital support in these initiatives. She emphasized that these actions contribute to the goal of building resilient and self-sufficient communities.
