Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu recently presented Cooperative Registrations to local fisher groups from the Namuana and Solovola villages in Kadavu, which included the Wailiwa and Solovola Cooperatives. This initiative aims to bolster their fishing activities by providing essential gear, such as nets and cooler boxes.
Naomi Naio from the Solovola Women’s Club expressed her gratitude for this timely assistance, highlighting its significance in enhancing their livelihoods and helping families prepare for the upcoming festive season as they gather back in the village.
In addition, the Rural Housing Assistance Programme delivered housing materials valued at over $35,000 to Waqavesi Nariu, contributing to support for Vatukoula Gold Mine workers affected by redundancy.
Minister Bainivalu encouraged the cooperatives to capitalize on the opportunities for growth arising from these initiatives. She thanked Deputy Prime Minister and Trades Minister Manoa Kamikamica and Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka for their collaborative efforts, emphasizing that these actions are geared towards fostering stronger, self-sustaining communities.
Overall, this series of support measures not only aids local fishers and affected workers but also promotes community resilience and prosperity, showcasing a positive commitment to the social and economic well-being of the region.
