Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu recently presented Cooperative Registrations to fishing groups from Namuana and Solovola villages in Kadavu, specifically the Wailiwa Cooperative Limited and Solovola Cooperative Limited. This initiative aims to bolster the local fishing industry, and accompanying the registrations, the minister also delivered essential fishing gear, including nets and cooler boxes.

Naomi Naio from the Solovola Women’s Club expressed her gratitude for this timely support, highlighting how it will significantly enhance their livelihoods and assist in preparing for the festive season as families gather in the village.

Additionally, as part of the Rural Housing Assistance Programme, housing materials worth over $35,000 were provided to Waqavesi Nariu. This initiative represents ongoing assistance for workers affected by redundancy from the Vatukoula Gold Mine.

Bainivalu urged cooperatives to take advantage of the opportunities available for growth, acknowledging the collaborative efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Trades Minister Manoa Kamikamica, along with Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka, which made these initiatives possible. She emphasized that these actions are steps toward “building stronger, self-sustaining communities.”

This support not only aims to improve economic conditions for local fishermen and miners but also fosters a sense of community resilience, preparing families to celebrate together during the upcoming festive season.

Overall, this effort serves as a reminder of the importance of community support and collaboration in overcoming challenges and achieving economic stability.
