Fisheries Minister Alita Bainivalu recently delivered Cooperative Registrations to fishing groups from Namuana and Solovola villages, specifically Wailiwa Cooperative Limited and Solovola Cooperative Limited. This initiative occurred last week, coinciding with the distribution of essential fishing gear, including nets and cooler boxes, to support their fisheries ventures.
Naomi Naio from the Solovola Women’s Club expressed gratitude for this timely support, which will enhance their livelihoods and assist in preparations for the upcoming festive season when extended families gather in the village.
In addition, the Rural Housing Assistance Programme delivered over $35,000 worth of housing materials to Waqavesi Nariu, aiding workers from the Vatukoula Gold Mine who have been impacted by recent redundancies.
Bainivalu urged cooperatives to take advantage of growth opportunities and expressed appreciation for the collaborative efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Trades Minister Manoa Kamikamica, as well as Rural Development Minister Sakiasi Raisevu Ditoka, in making these initiatives available. She emphasized that such efforts contribute to building stronger, self-sustaining communities.
This initiative not only supports local fishers and workers but also fosters a sense of community resilience, especially during challenging economic times. The timely support highlights the government’s commitment to empowering local enterprises and enhancing the well-being of its citizens.
In summary, the recent distribution of cooperative registrations and essential resources marks a significant step towards strengthening community livelihoods, especially for those in the fishing and mining sectors, while encouraging sustainable growth through cooperatives.
