The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and the UN Capital Development Fund (UNCDF) are embarking on multiple digital transformation projects, aiming to showcase a comprehensive digital approach for the future that involves the entire society.
One key project is the digital identity initiative, which focuses on creating interoperable systems for civil registration, healthcare records, and more. Munkhtuya Altangerel, the Resident Representative of the UNDP Pacific Office in Fiji, emphasized that these systems will ensure inclusive access to public services and social protection, ensuring that no one is excluded in the advancing digital landscape.
Another focus area is digital upskilling, which includes customized digital skills training for civil servants, regulators, and civil society organizations. This initiative aims to cultivate a digitally capable and responsive public sector.
“Digital public goods — we are utilizing open-source platforms to improve government efficiency and transparency. This enhances public service delivery and strengthens democratic institutions,” Ms. Altangerel remarked while speaking to financial industry leaders at the RBF Financial Inclusion Award event in Suva last week.
In addition, the partnership with international financial institutions aims to create people-centric solutions through targeted infrastructure investments that enhance connectivity.
Ms. Altangerel also highlighted ongoing efforts to address emerging challenges, specifically in areas like responsible artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and combating misinformation.
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to viewing citizens not merely as consumers of digital services, but as active contributors to shaping their digital future.”
