The Women’s Fund Fiji (WFF) has announced its 2024 grant cycle, which aims to empower 17 new grantee partners that are dedicated to promoting gender equality and instigating meaningful social change across the country. This initiative emphasizes the WFF’s commitment to supporting various women’s groups, gender-diverse organizations, and feminist movements, all rooted in intersectional feminist principles.
This year’s funding focuses on five primary areas: Women’s Economic Empowerment, Ending Violence Against Women, Women’s Leadership and Decision-Making, Climate Justice and Humanitarian Action, and Strengthening Women’s Coalitions for Change. According to Patricia Naisara, Co-Chair of the Governance Board at WFF, many of the grantees will concentrate their efforts on rural and remote communities, highlighting their crucial roles in fostering sustainable change.
Naisara comments, “Our vision for the Fund is to nurture inclusive, long-term funding models that are attuned to the intersectional realities of feminist social change.” This statement underscores the emphasis on community-led initiatives that respond creatively to local challenges.
The involvement of international partners, like the Australian and New Zealand High Commissions, also emphasizes the collective commitment to gender equality. Representatives from these organizations acknowledge the WFF’s efforts to build capacity and awareness among women’s groups, which is vital in addressing ongoing challenges within the community.
The recipient organizations include the Cicia Women’s Network, Levukana Women’s Association, and the Fiji Cancer Society, among others. This diversity in recipients reflects a widespread commitment to addressing critical issues impacting women and advocating for their rights across Fiji.
This grant cycle not only represents financial support for these organizations but also serves as a beacon of hope in the journey toward gender equality. It demonstrates how collaborative efforts between local initiatives and international support can foster significant social progress. As these efforts unfold, they hold the potential to spark meaningful changes, amplifying women’s voices and contributions in all spheres of society.
