New Vision of Fiji (NVF) is an NGO committed to aiding individuals with disabilities, as well as children, the elderly, and marginalized communities across Fiji.
With a membership exceeding 2,000, NVF focuses on delivering essential services in rural areas that often lack access and support. Recent funding from the Canadian government has allowed NVF to extend its outreach to some of Fiji’s most isolated regions, registering those in need and providing crucial support services to enhance their quality of life.
In 2024, NVF provided assistance to 300 children through its “Back to School” campaign, supplying necessary educational materials such as books, bags, stationery, uniforms, and sandals. Building on the success of this initiative, NVF has launched its 2025 Back to School Campaign to continue supporting the children they helped last year. The organization invites donations from businesses, community groups, and individuals interested in contributing to this important cause.
As part of its 2024–2026 objectives, NVF prioritizes empowering rural women and youth, particularly those with disabilities and single mothers.
In a significant collaboration with Bakels Fiji, NVF has initiated the Bake and Gain Economic Empowerment Program, which aims to assist participants in creating small businesses for self-sufficiency. The program has trained 20 women from areas such as Nadi, Sigatoka, and Suva in financial literacy, marketing, and essential business skills. Each participant is challenged to earn $1,000 within three months to reinvest in their business growth.
Rajnel Prasad, CEO of NVF, shared his enthusiasm for the program, highlighting the project’s long-awaited realization thanks to Bakels Fiji’s partnership. He expressed hope that more corporations would engage in similar initiatives that deliver community benefits and enhance their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts. Prasad also urged the Government and the Ministry of Women, Children, and Social Protection to support these initiatives, given their commitment to advocating for women’s empowerment.
The Bake and Gain Program will conclude in January 2025 with an event showcasing the business achievements of participants, including those with the highest earnings. NVF plans to help participants promote their businesses through social media marketing and will conduct weekend markets to increase their sales. Prasad noted aspirations to extend the program to maritime islands and the Northern Division to create additional opportunities for rural women.
Bakels Fiji has generously supplied the initial baking materials for the program. Kessy Tami, NVF community support leader in the Nadroga area, expressed gratitude for these starter packs, emphasizing the significant positive impact on impoverished grassroots communities.
Participant Ms. Savela from Yadua Village conveyed her excitement about reviving her baking business, which had to close a few years ago due to inadequate support, thanks to NVF’s resource provision.
Bakels Group, established in 1904 in Amsterdam, has expanded to become a global enterprise with nearly 40 companies worldwide, driven by innovation and a commitment to bakery skill development through specialized training centers.
Beyond the Bake and Gain initiative, NVF continues to advance other programs aimed at bettering the lives of its members. The organization recently introduced the Inclusive Employment Program, successfully placing individuals with disabilities in various industries, including factories and hospitality. NVF also takes pride in hosting Inclusive Concerts that showcase the talents of members with disabilities, providing opportunities to perform at private events and resorts during the festive season.
Looking ahead, NVF is eager to implement more innovative programs for the empowerment of persons with disabilities, rural women, and underserved communities across Fiji. Prasad concluded with a vision of creating sustainable solutions to uplift those in need and promote inclusive economic opportunities for everyone.
