World MSME Day was celebrated on June 27, highlighting the crucial role Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted members of the Building at Sunset community to share their motivations for entering entrepreneurship.
Fina Bakani Fisher, the owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business with two properties: a two-bedroom accommodation in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a five-bedroom home in Pacific Harbour at $750 per night. Initially motivated by the desire to stay home with her children while contributing to household income, Fina’s focus has shifted toward achieving financial freedom. She is eager to expand her business from a Facebook page to a dedicated website soon.
Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, started her business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, following commitments from local businesses seeking cleaning services. Based in the Suva-Nausori corridor, Sonam’s venture has been driven by her personal goals and values, as well as the increased demand for health and hygiene services during the pandemic. Her inspiration also came from witnessing the success of other women in business.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, has been passionate about fitness since her high school days. Her dedication to health and wellness led her to establish a fitness space that promotes confidence, resilience, and a positive mindset. With over ten years of experience and multiple certifications in personal training and fitness, she aims to help individuals achieve their health goals and improve their quality of life.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, is committed to sustainability and innovation in the construction industry. Her initiative, the Innovation in Construction Hub, seeks to leverage local expertise and new materials to address infrastructural challenges in Fiji, bringing together various skills to foster innovative projects.
