World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27th, a day dedicated to acknowledging the vital role MSMEs play in fostering innovation, generating jobs, and promoting sustainability. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Small Business, Big Change.”
Several members of the Building at Sunset community shared their inspirations for entering the entrepreneurial world.
Fina Bakani Fisher is the owner of Comfy Stays, a short-term rental accommodation business. She manages two properties: a two-bedroom rental in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a five-bedroom home in Pacific Harbour available for $750 per night. Initially motivated by the desire to contribute to her family’s income while staying home with her children, Fisher’s focus has shifted towards achieving financial independence. She is also excited to expand her business from a Facebook page to a dedicated website soon.
Sonam Nair is the managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, a cleaning service launched during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Nair’s venture began with commitments from several businesses seeking cleaning services. Currently operating in the Suva-Nausori corridor, she plans to expand to other towns. Her personal passions and values drove her to start the business, inspired by the increasing demand for cleaning services during the pandemic and by the success of other women entrepreneurs.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, discovered her passion for fitness in high school. With over a decade of experience and multiple fitness certifications, Ravesi aims to empower others to achieve their fitness goals and promote a healthy lifestyle. Her personal journey in health and wellness motivated her to create a space for individuals to experience the transformative power of fitness.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, an architectural design firm, focuses on sustainability and innovation in construction. Her goal is to integrate local and indigenous expertise into her projects. Mataika established the Innovation in Construction Hub to collaborate with the construction and trade industry to devise innovative solutions for Fiji’s infrastructure challenges.
These stories highlight the entrepreneurial spirit fueled by personal aspirations, community needs, and a commitment to making a positive impact.
