Empowering Change: Meet the Entrepreneurs Behind Fiji’s MSME Movement!

World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27th, focusing on the vital role these enterprises play in fostering innovation, job creation, and sustainability. The theme for this year was “Small Business, Big Change.” As part of the celebration, members of the Building at Sunset community shared their experiences that inspired them to pursue entrepreneurship.

Fina Bakani Fisher, the owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business with two properties: a two-bedroom unit in Laucala Beach Estate costing $200 per night, and a five-bedroom residence in Pacific Harbour priced at $750 per night. Initially motivated by the desire to balance family time with income generation, her focus has shifted towards achieving financial independence. She is also looking forward to expanding her online presence by launching a website soon.

Sonam Nair, the managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, began her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. With the backing of local businesses willing to hire her services, Nair aims to expand her operations beyond the Suva-Nausori corridor. Her personal aspirations and a genuine interest in business were key motivators, especially as the demand for cleaning services surged amid the pandemic. She emphasized the importance of health and hygiene, which further fueled her passion for entrepreneurship.

Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, discovered her love for fitness during high school. Her experiences in sports ignited a commitment to health and wellness, leading her to establish a fitness center aimed at helping others achieve their fitness goals. With over ten years of experience and various certifications, she wanted to create an inclusive environment to promote a healthy lifestyle for all.

Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, the founder of Atelier 153 and the Innovation in Construction Hub, is dedicated to sustainability and innovation within the construction sector. She emphasizes the importance of utilizing local expertise and resources to address infrastructure challenges in Fiji. Her initiative aims to bring together various skills and innovations to drive new projects in the construction industry.
