World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was celebrated on June 27th, aiming to highlight the crucial role MSMEs play in fostering innovation, creating jobs, and promoting sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted members of the Building at Sunset community to share their motivations for embarking on entrepreneurial journeys.
Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, runs a short-term rental business with two properties—one in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a more upscale five-bedroom accommodation in Pacific Harbour for $750 per night. Initially, her goal was to balance work with family life, but as her business evolved, she sought greater financial freedom. Fisher is excited to expand from her current Facebook presence to a dedicated website soon.
Sonam Nair, managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, started her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. With a growing demand for cleaning services, especially from businesses and residences, she secured contracts that facilitated her launch. Nair’s personal values and aspirations guided her decision to pursue entrepreneurship, and she is motivated by the successful women she has observed in the business world.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, discovered her passion for fitness during high school, which led her to dedicate herself to health and wellness. With over a decade of experience and various certifications in fitness training, she established Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness to create a community where individuals can achieve their fitness goals and improve their quality of life.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153, is enthusiastic about sustainability and innovation in the construction industry. Her initiative, the Innovation in Construction Hub, aims to leverage local skills and expertise to tackle infrastructural challenges in Fiji.
