World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was celebrated on June 27th, focusing on the vital role these businesses play in fostering innovation, creating jobs, and promoting sustainability. The theme for this year was “Small Business, Big Change.” Members of the Building at Sunset community shared their motivations for entering the entrepreneurial world.
Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business with two properties. Her journey began with the desire for more time at home with her children while contributing to her household income. Over time, her motivation shifted toward achieving financial independence. She is looking to expand her business by transitioning from Facebook to launching her own website soon.
Sonam Nair, the managing director of Total Hygiene Solutions, started her cleaning business in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic. She was inspired to invest in this sector after receiving commitments from several businesses that needed cleaning services. Nair’s goals and values guide her entrepreneurial journey, fueled by the health and hygiene demand during the pandemic and the success stories of other women in business.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, turned her high school passion for sports into a lifelong commitment to health and fitness. Through her personal journey, she discovered the benefits of fitness beyond physical strength, including confidence and resilience. With over ten years of experience and various certifications, Ravesi aimed to create a space for others to experience the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika, founder of Atelier 153 and the Innovation in Construction Hub, is dedicated to sustainability and innovation in the construction field. She emphasizes the importance of leveraging local expertise and developing new products to address Fiji’s infrastructure challenges. Mataika’s mission focuses on uniting skills in the construction industry to foster innovative project development.
