World MSME (Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises) Day was observed on June 27, emphasizing the crucial role of MSMEs in fostering innovation, creating jobs, and promoting sustainability. This year’s theme, “Small Business, Big Change,” prompted members of the Building at Sunset community to share their inspirations for pursuing entrepreneurship.
Fina Bakani Fisher, owner of Comfy Stays, operates a short-term rental business featuring two properties: a two-bedroom unit in Laucala Beach Estate priced at $200 per night and a five-bedroom home in Pacific Harbour available for $750 per night. Fina started her business to balance childcare while contributing to her family’s income. Over time, her focus shifted towards achieving financial freedom. She is excited about expanding her business from its current presence on Facebook to a newly launching website.
Sonam Nair, the managing director of Total Training Services, began her cleaning business during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. She was motivated by commitments from local businesses needing cleaning services and aimed to promote health and hygiene during this critical time. Sonam’s experience and the success of other women in business inspired her to realize her own entrepreneurial aspirations. Currently, her services are offered in the Suva-Nausori corridor, with plans for future expansion.
Veniana Ravesi, founder of Ravesi’s Kinetic Fitness, developed a passion for fitness in high school, which turned into a lifelong dedication to health and wellness. Recognizing the transformative effects of fitness, she sought to help others achieve their fitness goals. With over a decade of experience and various certifications, Veniana established her fitness center to provide a positive space for improving health.
Kelera Lomaloma Mataika is the founder of Atelier 153, an architectural design firm. Passionate about sustainability and innovation in construction, she launched the Innovation in Construction Hub to leverage local expertise and address infrastructure challenges in Fiji. Her initiative focuses on collaborating within the construction industry to develop new solutions.
These entrepreneurs exemplify the spirit of innovation and resilience that MSMEs embody, contributing significantly to the economy and community well-being.
