Twenty-nine welfare recipients recently celebrated their graduation from a four-day “Start Your Business” course aimed at equipping them with vital entrepreneurial skills. During the graduation ceremony, Eseta Nadakuitavuki, Permanent Secretary for Women, Children, and Social Protection, highlighted the importance of encouraging welfare recipients toward entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency.

The course, a collaboration between the Ministry of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications, and the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection, covered essential topics such as business planning, financial management, marketing, and operations through practical training.

Equipped with these new skills, the participants are now poised to contribute to economic growth within their communities. This initiative closely aligns with previous empowerment programs aimed at fostering financial independence among vulnerable populations, such as the Welfare Graduation Program, which has successfully trained other social welfare recipients in business management.

The emphasis on education and entrepreneurship in these programs reflects a broader commitment from the government to support vulnerable groups in Fiji. By providing the necessary tools and resources, these initiatives are creating pathways for individuals to achieve self-sufficiency, fostering hope for a more prosperous future for both participants and their communities.

As these new entrepreneurs embark on their journeys, their success can inspire further initiatives aimed at enhancing economic opportunities and reducing reliance on social welfare systems, thereby promoting resilience and mobility within society.
