Sashi Kiran, the newly appointed Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, has emphasized the urgent need to address the serious issue of gender-based violence affecting individuals, families, and communities. Kiran is committed to strengthening prevention initiatives, providing robust support for survivors, and ensuring that those who perpetrate such violence are held accountable.

Acknowledging that this mission cannot be undertaken in isolation, Kiran encourages all Fijians to join the Ministry in various capacities—whether it’s advocating for gender equality, assisting vulnerable community members, or promoting mutual respect and compassion among one another.

“To the women of Fiji, know that your voices matter. To our children, know that you are valued and cherished. To those who feel unseen or unheard, know that this Ministry is here to serve you,” Kiran stated, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to inclusivity.

She intends to collaborate with various stakeholders, including government agencies, non-governmental organizations, faith-based groups, and international partners, to work towards a more inclusive and equitable Fiji.

Kiran expressed her enthusiasm for this new role, stating, “As I begin this journey, I do so with hope, determination, and a deep love for our nation, and I look forward to your support in serving the most vulnerable.”

This initiative highlights a collective effort toward positive change and promotes a spirit of unity and compassion within the nation. By rallying the community to support these vital efforts, there is a hopeful perspective that Fiji can emerge as a society that prioritizes the well-being and rights of all its citizens.
