During a recent Cakaudrove Provincial Council meeting, the Cakaudrove Youth Council expressed an urgent need for increased support for the youth in the region. Vice President Mere Babale passionately articulated the challenges young people encounter when attempting to engage with their communities, emphasizing their feelings of being overlooked during village visits, despite the crucial support from elders.

Established just a year ago, the Council has already made significant strides, achieving infrastructure improvements across various districts and successfully hosting the Cakaudrove Youth Festival last December, which raised a remarkable $48,000 to support youth initiatives. Currently, the Council manages funds exceeding $20,000, which is pivotal as they confront pressing issues such as drug abuse and rising HIV cases in a province known for its drug cultivation.

Babale highlighted the necessity of strengthening partnerships with traditional leaders and community heads to ensure the success of their outreach initiatives aimed at improving community well-being. This call for collaboration resonates with previous discussions among local leadership about the importance of unity in addressing social challenges, as noted by Minister for Lands Filimoni Vosarogo.

The outlook remains optimistic, as the Cakaudrove Youth Council aims not only to reinforce cultural representation and inclusion among communities but also to foster initiatives focused on rehabilitation and prevention. The engagement of various sectors reflects a hopeful commitment to empowering the province’s youth, ensuring that they are active participants in shaping their future.

In summary, the ongoing efforts and community spirit underscored by the Cakaudrove Youth Council herald a bright future for youth engagement, with aspirations for continued growth and impactful initiatives aimed at combating social challenges and improving overall community welfare.
