The rising demand for authentic, high-quality products has highlighted the need for enhanced online marketing skills, particularly among local artisans. In response, the Fiji Arts Council, along with the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, organized an Online Market Training workshop tailored specifically for these artisans. This initiative strives to not only promote effective marketing of their creations but also safeguard their cultural heritage.

At the workshop’s opening, Aisake Taito, Chief Executive of the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, highlighted the significant opportunities that lie in the responsible use of digital platforms for Fijian artisans. “Now is the time to utilize these digital platforms to market your creations and artworks while ensuring their cultural uniqueness and authenticity,” he affirmed.

Taito emphasized that leveraging social media and online platforms can significantly boost sales and benefit the local economy. The two-day training includes speakers from various agencies who will discuss essential topics such as biosecurity and compliance for online selling, particularly targeting international markets.

Maciusela Raitaukula, Director of the Fiji Arts Council, noted that the workshop empowers artisans by building confidence and equipping them with crucial skills to navigate the online market landscape. The workshop is set to conclude tomorrow.

This training effort aligns with preceding initiatives by organizations like the Fiji Crop & Livestock Council, which has provided similar training to bolster farmers’ marketing capabilities and help them overcome market access challenges. By providing artisans and farmers with the necessary tools for online success, these collaborative efforts indicate a hopeful trajectory for local businesses, seamlessly connecting traditional practices with modern marketing tactics.

With the potential for sustainable growth and enhanced visibility for Fijian products in global markets, this initiative offers an optimistic outlook—showing that with appropriate support and resources, local artisans and entrepreneurs can flourish in the digital economy.
