The Amania Women’s Group from Nailega, Wainibuka in Tailevu has made significant progress as they transition from selling crafts and fresh produce by the roadside to presenting their handmade products at the Christmas Market held at the Suva Civic Centre.

Recently, the group set out at 4 a.m., facing the chilly morning air, to transport their goods to the bustling market. Their dedication paid off as they joined 40 other female entrepreneurs participating in this festive event, which will run for two days. Amid the holiday festivities in Suva, these women of varying ages are actively pursuing their goals of financial independence by transforming local resources into valuable goods.

Eleni Kaloulia, the treasurer of the Amania Women’s Group, hailed the market as a significant breakthrough for the group. She reflected on the initial challenges of achieving financial independence, citing limited resources and ideas. However, their commitment to the cause shone through as they enthusiastically prepared for the ROC Market, which is known as Fiji’s longest-running street market focused on small businesses, artisans, and crafters.

Kaloulia reported that the market was a remarkable success, with numerous sales of mats and shopping chains along with custom orders, indicating a growing demand for their creations. Despite facing hurdles in establishing their presence in the business sector without substantial assistance, the Amania Women’s Group remains resolute in their mission. Kaloulia emphasized their ultimate aim of enhancing the living standards within their village, showcasing their determination and resilience.

This story stands as an inspiring reminder of community spirit and the power of entrepreneurship. The Amania Women’s Group exemplifies how dedication and creativity can lead to positive change, helping not only themselves but uplifting their entire community along the way.

In summary, the members of the Amania Women’s Group are forging a path toward empowerment and sustainability through their entrepreneurial endeavors, marking a hopeful future for themselves and their village.
