Employment Ministry Boosts Resources with New Hires

The Ministry of Employment has successfully bolstered its resources across all divisions to enhance service delivery to the public. Permanent Secretary Maritino Nemani reported that two-thirds of vacant positions within the ministry have been filled.

During a discussion of the 2022 Auditor General’s Report regarding the General Administration Sector, Mr. Nemani stated that there were 31 vacant positions in 2022 and 2023. Consequently, the ministry has filled a total of 52 vacancies, which includes the positions carried over from the prior year.

He clarified the discrepancy in numbers, noting that the increase is attributed to staff resignations, resulting in changes within the department. The ministry now has a robust mechanism to attract and fill these vacant roles promptly.

As a result of these efforts, the number of outstanding vacancies has significantly reduced, addressing the workload issues that have persisted over the years. Mr. Nemani expressed satisfaction with the progress made, highlighting that most offices, including those in Lautoka, Labasa, and Central Eastern regions, are now well-equipped to deliver services effectively to the community.
