The strong relationship between Fiji and Japan was celebrated in Suva as the Embassy of Japan in Fiji marked the 66th birthday of His Majesty Emperor Naruhito on Thursday. The event underscored the enduring friendship and cooperation between the two nations, which have maintained diplomatic ties since 1970.

During the celebration, Japanese Ambassador to Fiji Hiroshi Tajima emphasized the growing partnership, citing collaborative efforts in various fields such as climate action, infrastructure, disaster resilience, public health, and education. He remarked, “Japan and Fiji are cherished friends bound together by the Pacific Ocean and are important partners that share common values and principles, building upon the long-lasting trust and cooperation between us. Japan is committed to further strengthening the bond of friendship with Fiji.”

Ambassador Tajima also reiterated Japan’s dedication to working alongside Fiji and other Pacific nations to promote peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region. Kiti Temo, Chief of Protocol from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, represented the Fijian Government and extended congratulations on behalf of Fiji’s leaders and citizens, highlighting Japan’s significant socio-economic support through the Japan International Cooperation Agency.

The celebration not only marked the Emperor’s birthday but also reflected on the shared goals and mutual respect that characterize the Fiji-Japan relationship, which continues to evolve towards a more prosperous future for both nations.
