Families from Koro in Levuka, Lomaiviti, gathered with great anticipation as they awaited the arrival of the MV Captain Inoke, a new vessel from Goundar Shipping Limited. This occasion held special significance for the Ratotodro family, as the ship was named in honor of their late patriarch, Captain Inoke Ratotodro.

Melaia Ratotodro, the oldest daughter of Captain Ratotodro, was overcome with emotion as she watched the vessel dock at Port Mua-i-Walu, reflecting fondly on her father’s legacy. “Our dad, who was one of the longest-serving staff of Goundar Shipping Limited, passed away last October. This vessel serves to honor him,” she stated. “We may miss him dearly, but we are grateful for what the company has done.”

Underlining her father’s dedication, she recalled that he devoted 30 years to Goundar Shipping. The company’s managing director, George Goundar, shared his heartfelt sentiments about Captain Ratotodro. He remembered him as a close friend and a vital supporter when he launched the company in 2011. “He was instrumental in my journey,” Goundar said, noting Ratotodro’s contributions to the company’s operations, particularly regarding maritime regulations.

The MV Captain Inoke is captained by Sainimere Qutonilaba, a skilled 31-year-old who began her career with Goundar Shipping as a cadet in 2011. She has excelled in her role, successfully bringing several new vessels from abroad.

The event also included a traditional ceremony before the families were invited aboard for a tour of the new vessel.

This heartwarming tribute not only commemorates Captain Inoke Ratotodro’s legacy but also highlights the strong relationships built in the maritime community, showcasing a partnership that continues to flourish. It serves as a reminder of the enduring impact of dedication and friendship in the maritime industry.
