Mayanavanua expressed his deep emotions during his debut match in the Super Rugby Pacific, marking not only a significant milestone in his career but also a moment filled with pride for his family. His wife, Lilieta Mayanavanua, made the journey from England to witness her husband’s first game with the Fijian Drua, and she couldn’t help but be overwhelmed with emotion. “To be honest, I was actually emotional. Not only his first Super Rugby game, but this is my first time watching him play for a Super Rugby game as well,” she revealed.

Lilieta highlighted the courage it took to transition from a prominent rugby scene in England to representing the Drua in Fiji. She expressed immense pride in her husband’s decision, emphasizing the importance of family support in such endeavors. Mayanavanua himself credited his wife and their young son as central figures in his journey. “It’s second to none. My wife and son have been there for me ever since I started professionally; they’re my biggest why,” he stated during an interview with The Fiji Times, which featured stories about the team’s senior players.

Their son, Temo Mayanavanua Junior, also experienced this special moment, showing increased awareness and passion for the game compared to his father’s earlier professional stints in Europe. Lilieta noted, “He’s excited; in England and France, he was really young, but here in Fiji, I feel like he understands the game more and he’s cheering more for his dad. I’m happy to see that.”

This heartwarming story encapsulates the collective journey of a family supporting each other through challenges and achievements, resonating with the spirit of community and resilience often found in sports. It serves as a reminder of the emotional connections that bind families to the world of professional athletics, fostering hope and pride in their shared experiences.
