A newly established rugby team from Vatukoro, Ra, recently demonstrated remarkable talent and determination at the Fiji Sports Council’s Under-20 7s tournament held at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva. In their bowl quarter-final match, the Vatukoro team faced the Untouched Rugby team and secured a solid 12-0 victory, showcasing their defensive strength and teamwork.

Malakai Rokomua made significant contributions during the first half, helping to put points on the board. Marika Dreudreu then capped off the match with a crucial try in the second half to secure the win. Head coach Ilai Nameke praised the team’s youthful spirit, mentioning that they had only joined the competition two months prior to gain valuable rugby experience.

Despite not advancing to the main cup final, the victory against Untouched Rugby marks a significant achievement for this young team, who have also performed well in previous Fiji Sports Council under-20 7s events, including a notable win at the Mataso 7s. The team’s aspirations include participating in all tournaments and the Fiji Bitter series to further enhance their skills and exposure.

The Vatukoro team expressed deep appreciation to their supporters, parents, and the Ra community for their unwavering encouragement. Their commitment to growth and development in rugby bodes well for the future of these young athletes.

In summary, the Vatukoro team’s recent victory signifies not only their potential but also the bright future of young rugby talent in Fiji. With continued support and experience, these players are on a promising path to growth and success in the sport, embodying the spirit of determination and resilience.
