The Water Authority of Fiji is set to isolate the raw water pipeline leading to the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant in Savura to conduct urgent repairs on a washout valve that was damaged due to flash flooding earlier today. The damage occurred when a tree trunk, swept away by the floodwaters, struck the washout valve of the trunk raw water main.
Samuela Rokovaleusa, Manager of Regional Operations at WAF, stated that repairing the damaged washout valve is crucial for ensuring the continuity of water production and the overall integrity of operations. He noted that a significant amount of water is currently being released from the pipeline without reaching the Tamavua water treatment facility.
The isolation of the pipeline will begin today and is anticipated to last overnight. During this maintenance period, residents in nearby areas may experience interruptions in their water supply. Rokovaleusa reassured the public that the operations team will do their best to minimize inconvenience and will work diligently to complete the repairs swiftly while providing water carting support.
Residents are advised to prepare for this temporary disruption.
